Thank you for considering us as your possible home for undergraduate and graduate education in four areas of business administration and professional accountancy.  Since you are reading this message, you likely will be new to Truman State University and want to evaluate whether this is a place that has the right "fit" for you.

I came to Truman in July, 2006. That being not so long ago, I remember having considered the same question in order to discern whether the University and the School of Business were the right places for me.  I have learned over time that surrounding yourself with smart people causes you to grow.  In other words, if you are striving toward your personal best for success in life, hook up with exceedingly successful people and organizations.

Greatness can be found in seemingly ordinary raw material which evolves into the extraordinary. Hans Christian Andersen relates the process of an "ugly duck", in reality a swan. Simple carbon becomes a diamond.  It is expert cutting and polishing which produce brilliance.  I chose Truman because I saw greatness evident in the institution and signs which supported my conclusion that Truman was the right place for me to thrive.

This is an exciting time – reorganized academic structure at the University and School of Business, unique mission, instructional excellence, challenge, rankings, value.  For sure, we’re more than just your plain vanilla flavor.  But we need you as much as you may need us in order to really create pizzazz!  When you choose to connect with us, we will deliver on our commitment to help you to become a better you and show the way to greater success than you might have imagined.  We cultivate; you grow – in an environment which few universities in the country can match for ability to provide an outstanding liberal arts education with an exceptional business program.  Truman has the highest graduation rate among Missouri public institutions.

If you were to rely on just one overarching sign to move your decision toward Truman, then defer to the judgment of AACSB-International, the preferred accrediting agency of even the largest university business schools.  Its seal on our programs means that the faculty, staff, and university perform for your benefit to the highest nationally accepted standards.  In short, we do what we say we do!  We must prove it again in 2009 for our next national accreditation reviews.

This could be the soil from which you will bloom and prosper.  If you have explored the university website in detail or read our literature, you will have found your own evidence on which to base a decision to participate on the Truman team in the School of Business.  Don’t sell yourself short as being only “ordinary” raw material.  In our garden, you can evolve into the extraordinary.  Plan to apply for admission to Truman State University!  “Veni, vidi, vici,” messaged Julius Caesar.  You come, see, conquer!

The size of the business student body is such that there is a good chance that we will be able to become personally acquainted.  Both of us can take advantage of this excellent opportunity to link together for our successes.

Truly yours on behalf of students, faculty, and staff,

Renée Wachter
