Assistant/Associate Professor in Accounting

Talented students and a collegial faculty make the Truman State University School of Business an outstanding work environment.  The School of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant/associate professor of accounting.  Starting date is August, 2009, but is negotiable.  Screening begins September 2, 2008, and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:

 Teach undergraduate and graduate level accounting courses.  Primary teaching focus includes auditing, accounting information systems, and introduction to accounting, but other interests may be accommodated.  A normal teaching load is 9 hours per semester.  Scholarly activity and output appropriate to rank are required.  Responsibilities also include: advising; mentoring of students in activities and undergraduate research; service.

Applicant Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications

•     “Academically Qualified” as defined by AACSB

•     Ph.D. or D.B.A. or equivalent terminal degree(s) as defined by AACSB profiles or ABD with an expected completion date of Fall, 2009 from a regionally accredited university

•     Course work or academic preparation related to the responsibilities of the position

•     Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence

•     Demonstrated potential for scholarly activity appropriate for the mission of the School

•     Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills

Preference will be given to applicants with degree(s) from AACSB-accredited programs.

Preferred qualifications

•     Discipline-specific faculty experience in an AACSB-accredited program

•     Professional certifications (CPA, CMA, or CIA)

•     Demonstrated record of outstanding teaching effectiveness

•     Demonstrated record of high-quality intellectual and scholarly activity

•     Related industry or consulting experience

Rank and Salary:  Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Appointment to associate professor normally requires five years in rank at assistant professor level, a sustained record of scholarly production, a history of meaningful service, and a record of effective instruction.  Truman offers an attractive benefits package including life, health, and disability insurance, and retirement contributions.
