The set-up of this event is very similar to that of the Career Expo except ut is geared for accounting students and is a smaller, more personal gathering of recruiters and students searching for jobs in accoutning. Accounting students were able to network with representatives from various accounting firms to discuss jobs, possible career paths, or to simply to improve their interview skills.
Tiffany DeOrnellis, a junior accounting major, said, "Meet the firms provides a terrific opportunity for students to meet and mingle with accounting professionals from not only the public sector but also the private and governmental sectors.” Not quite ready for a full time job yet, DeOrnellis saw the potential of the event saying, “It gives you the chance to see what is out there and gives some idea about potential career directions."
For those students like Tiffany, who are not quite ready for that full-time job, it would be wise to put those business cards to use. By keeping in touch with the employers, even if it is simply to say hello every few months, improves one’s chances at a job or summer internship with that firm.
